Sephora Circus Balexert: the latest beauty launches to try

At the “Sephora Circus”  event in Balexert Geneva on Thursday, March 30th, the beauty innovations of the spring 2023 season were presented to customers. Here are the 5 new launches that in my opinion should not be missed.

Make Up For Ever HD Skin Powder Foundation

Let’s start with my absolute favorite product. I had the chance to test Make Up For Ever’s HD Skin Powder Foundation for a few weeks, having purchased it online as soon as it became available. It is an ultrafine compact powder foundation, and since I have mature skin, powder foundations usually don’t enhance my features. However, this product with its silky and lightweight texture, manages to cover imperfections in just a few strokes, offering almost total coverage and a very natural matte finish. The foundation is designed for combination to oily skin, but it also doesn’t dry out mature or dry skin. Powder foundations are generally not recommended for mature skin as they can emphasize wrinkles and expression lines, but Make Up For Ever’s HD Skin Powder Foundation is the exception that proves the rule. The product is easy and quick to apply, thanks to the included sponge which has two different sides, one for higher coverage (the side with the writing) and the other for a more natural effect. In addition, the applicator provided with the product is of high quality, which is rare to find. I can say that Make Up For Ever’s HD Skin Powder Foundation is one of the best purchases I have made recently.

Givenchy Beauty Prisme Libre Skin Caring Corrector and Concealer

Givenchy has recently expanded its Prisme Libre line with two new products for the complexion: the Givenchy Beauty Prisme Libre Skin Caring Corrector and the Givenchy Beauty Prisme Libre Skin Caring Concealer. Those not passionate about makeup tend to confuse corrector and concealer, these new products help us understand the difference.

Givenchy Beauty Prisme Libre Skin Caring Corrector

This is a corrector available in three shades. Green to cover redness, blue to brighten dull skin, and peach to neutralize dark circles. It should be used to correct specific issues as the first step in preparing your base.

Givenchy Beauty Prisme Libre Skin Caring Concealer

The concealer is used to brighten and illuminate the under-eye area. In case of pronounced dark circles, the corrector (the peach one) should be used first and then the concealer should be applied on top. Those who don’t have significant problems can safely use this product alone, skipping the corrector step. The concealer is available in 24 shades that also consider different skin undertones. Its moisturizing formula makes it particularly suitable for mature skin or for those with prominent under-eye areas. It does not emphasize wrinkles and has a fairly natural effect thanks to its very thin texture. The coverage is medium (it becomes total by obviously using the corrector first). The product sets very well and does not migrate once applied.

The combination of these two products completed by the foundation guarantees a flawless complexion.

Yum Pistachio Gelato 33  by Kayali

Kayali Fragrances, the perfumery brand owned by Huda Kattan, has released a new unisex fragrance called Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33. However, the scent is not what it seems. Despite the claim suggesting a sweet gelato-like aroma, many consumers have been misled. The fragrance opens with a dominant citrus note of bergamot, followed by rum, hazelnut, and cardamom. Only later does the pistachio note come into play, accompanied by peony, jasmine, pear, geranium, raspberry, and white peach. It takes about half an hour to perceive the sweetest part of the fragrance, where whipped cream, marshmallow, cotton candy, cocoa, cedarwood, sandalwood, and tonka bean prevail. The fragrance is available in four sizes: 100ml, 50ml, 10ml Deluxe, and 10ml Travel Spray.

Too Faced Cloud Crush Blurring Blush

Too Faced has released a new ultra-blendable blush called Cloud Crush in six shades:

  • Velvet Crush (nude pink)
  • Tequila Sunset (peachy orange)
  • Watermelon Rain (fuchsia)
  • Candy Clouds (light pink with cool undertones)
  • Head In The Clouds (powder pink)
  • Golden Hour (rosy peach)

I purchased the Tequila Sunset shade. The blush blends easily, and the cloud effect advertised in the claim is genuine. The effect on the skin is smoothing, and the texture is quite thin. The high pigmentation is the product’s strength, so it’s necessary to be careful not to apply too much at the beginning if you desire a lighter effect. However, with a few brushstrokes, the blush can still be diffused and blended, making it difficult to create a patchy effect. The lasting power is excellent, and I didn’t need to reapply it throughout the day.

Ultra Violette Supreme Screen Face Sunscreen

Ultra Violette, a skincare brand founded by Ava Matthews and Bec Jefferd, two Australian women passionate about skincare and sun protection, is now available at Sephora. Although a newcomer to the skincare industry, the brand already has many fans. The founders met during a cosmetic industry training course and began discussing the need to create an effective, lightweight, and pleasant-to-use sunscreen. In 2019, they launched their brand, promoting the importance of daily sun protection as part of a skincare routine and environmental sustainability. The brand uses recyclable packaging and reduces plastic use, thus minimizing the environmental impact of its products.

Ultra Violette’s Supreme Screen Face Sunscreen is a product that fits perfectly with the new skinimalism trend. It’s a triple-use product because, in addition to being an effective face sunscreen with SPF 50, it moisturizes the skin like a cream and primes the skin for makeup like a face primer. Suitable for normal to dry skin, the cream has a delicate and fresh fragrance that releases on the skin. Its formulation promises not to leave any white traces on the skin as it absorbs immediately and hydrates deeply. With a price of around €40, which is not exactly the lowest for a sunscreen, the Supreme Screen Face Sunscreen promises not only to protect the skin from sun damage but also to nourish and prepare it for makeup, all in one step.
