It seems that the latest trend in the kitchen also corresponds to the latest culinary trend on Instagram. It’s called “cloud eggs,” which are baked eggs that have the particular characteristic of being very photogenic.
The dish is perfect for a brunch and is gaining a lot of success with the hashtag #cloudeggs. Different variations are proposed on Instagram, ranging from healthier versions that accompany cloud eggs with salads, asparagus, avocado, or quinoa, to slightly more calorie-dense ones that incorporate cheese into the dish. However, the dish is still considered low in calories (about 160 calories per egg).
Preparing cloud eggs is really easy. First of all, you need to separate egg whites and yolks. The egg whites should be whipped until stiff peaks form and then spooned onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. In the center of this cloud of egg whites, the yolks are then gently placed, just as if you were recreating the image of a sun on a cloud.
As desired, you can incorporate a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese into the egg whites before cooking to make the eggs more flavorful, or add poppy seeds, salt, and pepper.
The mixture is then placed in a preheated oven for a few minutes. The ideal cooking time is when a light browning of the egg whites begins to appear.
The cloud eggs are therefore ready to be eaten, photographed and posted on Instagram.
